You can't be the same hair stylist you were 5 years ago and expect to grow your business.

In this industry, things are changing on the regular! If you are a stylist or owner that is doing the same things you have been doing 5,10,15 years ago. You may be falling behind when it comes to growing your Business and giving your guests exactly what they are looking for. Here are some areas to focus on and maybe start to think about making some changes!
- Guest experience - The things that clients were looking for years ago and what they want today are totally different. Today your clients come to the salon, way more educated and informed on color trends and how they want to be treated. A good haircut and a smile just won’t cut it anymore. Today you have to go above and beyond in terms of service. This means a hug or a handshake, longer consultations, educating them along the way, talking about a maintenance plan, getting them pre-booked, pampering them the entire time, aaannnddd following up with them after they leave!
- Technical skills - If taking a class every 6 months was what worked for you years ago, I hate to break the news. The number 2 reason clients leave the salon is because they get bored. Don’t assume that little Susie wants to be a 7N for the rest of her life. Come to the table offering new ideas and educate her on new trends that will work for her. Continued education keeps you fresh and on point yes. But it also allows you to provide your clients with a level of technique that will make you stand out behind the chair.
- Be the expert - If you aren’t taking charge behind the chair and positioning yourself as the expert you are totally missing out. Clients want your professional opinion. They want to be told what looks best on them. They want you to tell them when they should schedule their next appointment! Be confident and guide your clients every step of the way.
Change is a good thing. Change is a necessary thing. Especially in this business!
