What does “Love Your Chair” mean anyway?

What does “Love Your Chair” mean anyway?

If you follow our social media accounts or have purchased any of our cleaners you may have seen our company mantra 'Love your cHair'. At first glance, it looks like a basic company hashtag or a clever way to highlight the word HAIR in cHair but for us, it has a deeper more esoteric meaning. Love your cHair for us means being present in the moment with gratitude.

Do you often find yourself wondering why certain hairstylists or barbers always have a long line of clients waiting for their services? It usually seems like their salons are brimming with clients and people are willing to wait for months to schedule an appointment with them.

You may think it is simply because they offer great hairstyling services and clients are only interested in getting the best cuts or getting a hairdo that will have them looking fly for the weekend. Well, that may be one part of it, but a major part is that clients flock to certain hairstylist chairs because of the energy they bring to their clients day, the love and respect they have for their craft, and the gratitude they have for the chair that helps make it happen.

The amazing hair care professional and client relationship.

For most people, there is an unspoken bond between them and their hairstylists. We do not know what triggers it, maybe it is because the hairstylist does not seem as imposing as a therapist, they are outside our circle of family or we feel they are less likely to judge, but a lot of people are very comfortable with sharing the juiciest details of their lives with the person behind the chair. Hair Stylists may have awards and certifications in giving you a new look on the outside, but with their years of experience in touching the heads of clients, they have also mastered the art of touching their minds and hearts as well.

Hairstylists are usually not only very talented at instilling confidence in their clients by making them look beautiful, but they also have great personalities, they tend to be fun loving and good-humored so it’s no wonder clients feel so connected to them and are comfortable with baring it all. They know they will be leaving that chair looking and feeling great thanks to the loving hands and conversation, advice or listening ear of the beautiful soul that is their hairstylist.

Touching hair and lives

We do not know about you, but we know quite a number of hair stylists who have individually touched the lives of so many clients. Something as simple or seemingly insignificant as a good haircut can have a mega impact on the life of a person. People have gone from feeling unattractive, feeling insecure and lacking the confidence in themselves to pursue their goals and dreams to looking and feeling beautiful, confident and ready to take on the world.

Recently a teenage cancer patient who was losing most of her hair because of the side effects of chemo and struggled with confidence and finding a way to feel good about herself amidst the pain had her life absolutely transformed by the kind and life-changing act of -a hairstylist from a whole different city. As the teenager spoke openly on social media about her struggles with her looks especially with senior prom coming up and she did not know what to do about her hairdo for the day.

A generous and amazing hair stylist from a different city sent her an encouraging message and booked a flight to her city for the sole purpose of styling her hair and encouraging her to see the silver linings in her life and not give in to the temptation to fall into depression. All of this completely paid for by the hairstylist herself! Talk about a life touched. We are quite sure she would never forget this act of kindness shown to her by a total stranger. An angel in the form of a hairstylist.

Taking pride in your chair and your profession

There is a misconception that hairstylists and barbers cater to only the outward appearance, needs and looks for their clients but this could not be further from the truth. A hair salon is more than just a place for beautifying oneself. It also serves a place for people to come together, talk, laugh and share their experiences. A good hair stylist or barber's chair is more than a place to sit for a few hours while you get a haircut. With their years of experience and the wealth of people, they have had conversations with, hairstylists are a great sounding board for ideas and sometimes simply having someone listen to you while you jabber on about the things in your life helps ease anxiety and stress you may be going through.

The impact hairstylists have on the lives of the clients and communities cannot be underestimated. This dynamic has even been immortalized in several movies that show the sense of community a hairstylist shop or barber salon brings to the world.

Because of how close your chair brings you to your clients as a hair care personnel, you not only restore their confidence through styling their hair, you empathize, support and encourage them and give them advice and ideas on how to take on their challenges.

Your clients feel safe with you as you hardly ever have any eye contact in that close bubble that your chair provides as you cut, wash, color or style their hair. They know you will give them a much-needed listening ear without any pressure to change their ways by just being there for them. However, you should feel free to encourage your client to see a mental health care professional in cases that seem serious.

Clients feel safe and secure in your chair and are willing to share their secrets because they trust you to keep them. You give them your attention and take an interest in things they may not feel too confident about sharing with others. You are an ally, a confidant and a friend and if that is not something to take immense pride in then we do not know what is.

Our hope is that you feel empowered by your craft and know that when the world sits down in your cHair that's your opportunity to make a difference. I watched my father change lives from behind his chair and for that reason, we say if you Love Your Hair, then Love Your cHair.
